Hypertext writing
Mark Bernstein remains, even amongst Webheads, a relatively unkown person and that is shame. Those that recognize it generally do so because of his work with Eastgate. But he is also one of the few people who have been serioulsy advocating hypertext — which, ironically enough, seems to be a dying artform on the Web.
In this week’s issue of A List Apart, he wrote an excellent piece on writing for the always changing Web. His ten tips are simple, but all have well-articulated reasons that any writer should take to heart:
- Write for a reason
- Write often
- Write tight
- Make good friends
- Find good enemies
- Let the story unfold
- Stand up, speak out
- Be sexy
- Use your archives
- Relax!
And if you haven’t already, read The Elements of Style (if you already have read it, read it again).
