Admittedly, I only occasionally visited Webmonkey in recent years, but there was a time when I read every word. Today, Webmonkey’s staff has been laid-off, effectively shuttering the place that first taught me the values of good Web design.
Webmonkey began, essentially, as a content outlet for the developers at HotWired — once, Wired’s Web portal — and was the prototypical Web development site. Digital Web, A List Apart, evolt.org, and the hundreds of Web-centric blogs like this one were both inspired by Webmonkey, and, ironically, responsible, in part, for its death (I say in part, because Terra Lycos didn’t make life easy for any of the Wired Digital sites).
Thanks for everything, I wouldn’t be here without you.
