Attacking the messenger
Despite the old adage, it really isn’t a good idea to kill (or hit, in this case) the messenger if you want to generate any level of sympathy from the general public.
Any support these students had generated in their protest against the end of a six-year tuition freeze will likely vanish, and with the current B.C. government they need as much support as they can get.
Coincidentally, I was just talking to someone about the risks camera operators face covering the news — but it was in reference to war zones, not public parks in Victoria.
