Saturday Night’s over
A friend living in New York sent an email this weekend capturing the strength of the human spirit and urging us all to be compassionate and humane. As the days grow into weeks and months, please remember we are all in this together. But at some point life has to return to some degree of normalcy…
One of Canada’s oldest — and arguably least profitable — magazines is being shutdown. Saturday Night has been moving toward its last edition at an accelerated rate ever since the magazine was folded into the National Post. Now Saturday Night, one of Canada’s last great magazines, has become one of the first victims of Post’s Asper reign. According to CanWest, the Post will unveil a new weekend package on October 6, and “much of [the magazine’s] material will be incorporated into the weekend edition.”
The Asper’s also cut:
- the Toronto section
- Arts & Life
- Review
- the Weekend Post
All told, 120 jobs will be eliminated.
