Big ads and subscription

Salon.com’s made what could be a bold step. By implementing the annoying (but so to be everywhere) extra-large ads that first premiered on CNET, and offering readers a way-out through subscriptions, they put a new twist on an old idea. Salon.com deserves to succeed. The click-thru model seems to have increased the amount of tabloid-style journalism at a site once known for quality writing. A solid, subscription-based revenue stream might just reverse that trend.
