One of the dark secrets of journalism is almost no-one double-check’s the reporter’s facts (except in magazines—usually).
This is especially true with newspapers using freelancer’s works. While this is generally not a issue—because the reporters know their subjects—problems do arise, as described in this TVBarn piece about a story from The Globe and Mail.
