Old memes are burping to the surface, including inline lists and rounded corners. The former was inspired by a new article at evolt, the latter by a Adam Kalsey’s method for rounding corners. In both cases Eric Meyer shared some of his insight.

On the Macintosh version of Netscape 4.x, Meyer reminded me of a problem I first encountered at the Ontario Science Centre: list-style: none on lis causes a question mark to appear in place of a bullet (neither should appear). For navigation lists, this is easily fixed by colouring the li to match the background, and then styling its children another colour. (Read the tip.)

For the rounded corners, however, he posted something that really twigged my interest: using XBL to style a page, particularly his blockquote example. Can’t decide whether this is taking pages toward proprietary exile, or extending Web design until proper support is implemented. Either way, the effect is quite impressive.
