Print, past; future…?

David Akin points out that the latest newspaper readership numbers show the papers are actually losing younger readers (or perhaps more accurately, they aren’t attracting new younger readers). So where are those people going for their news? Maybe the Web sites of said newspapers — I know I have for the past eight years or so.

Ironically, the bastion of traditional media, the BBC, is struggling to defend is own Web sites’ budgets. Although the situation is slightly different here, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the CBC face similar scrutiny in the next few years as more news sites begin charging for access.

While on the topic of online newspapers, I should mention that the behemoth of a redesign I’ve worked on for the Globe and Mail launched this weekend (we were in good company, Google also redesigned). I plan on summarizing the new design at the site some time soon.
