Living Can Kill You

Not-so quality TV

Last night, CBC broadcast an English-langauge remake of its Quebec arm’s hit sitcom, Rumeurs. This version, produced by the one and only Moses Znaimer, was well promoted and expectations were higher than normal for a Canadian show.

I lasted about fiteen minutes before turning Rumours off; others weren’t so lucky.

A large problem for me was that the show really seemed like a remake. With humour and characters seemingly imported unchanged from one culture into another, everything felt just a little off.

Thankfully, despite Rumours and the cancelling (English-) Canadian television best shows, there is one glimmer of televisual hope: Intelligence. The series — created by Chris “Da Vinci’s” Haddock, and starring many of the same actors — premieres tonight.
