Au revoir, Ti Jean; usable Web fonts; Widgetopia; interviewing chofmann; limited copyright tariffs
Bye bye, mon Chrétien… I doubt the new guy will be as much fun as you were over the past decade. (For example, “I’m Feeling Lucky” Google search for "What is the worst blog in the world".)
With the dominance of Windows as an operating system, the range usable Web fonts is quite good. Of course, it’s never a good idea to rely exclusively on a particular font for a design.
Christina Wodtke is collecting example good Web widgets — specifically, form based-tools (via Digital Web).

As faithful readers (and co-workers) know, I’m a big fan of the Mozilla browsers — I’ve been using them regularly since milestone 12 (that’s almost four years…) — so it was quite a pleasure to interview Mozilla’s Chris Hofmann for Digital Web.
One more thing to scratch off the “what’s next” list: it’s now possible to create broadcast-quality video recorded on a regular phone.
Last year, when this cropped up, I was less than happy about it. And despite similar, and recent, cash grabs by SOCAN, I’m a bit relieved. The Canadian Private Copying Collective has got approval to charge a tax on digital audio recorders like the iPod. So why the relief? The CPCC wanted to put a tariff on all digital media recording devices, including hard drives. This amendment may also make it harder for the recording associations to claim downloading music is illegal in Canada. David Akin has more.
